Alvis was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended local schools and graduated Terry Parker High School, Class of '84. He went on to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin on a football scholarship. Alvis is a single father of one adult son.

Alvis currently serves as Vice President of Terry Parker Alumini Fund and is an active member of the Men's Mentorship program at Macedonia Baptist Church. He also worked on the Alvin Brown neighborhood campaign. And he hosts an annual event to raise awareness and funds for JASMYN. Alvis lives in the Riverside area of Jacksonville.

Currently, OASIS has an two open positions with the Board of Directors or Advisor to the Board for its Education Programming Director/Coordinator. These positions entail working closely with other board members, other organizations, the DOH, corporate diversity leaders, and staff of local educational institutions to develop plans for ongoing education programs and subjects. This position has an emphasis on health and personal growth development programs and will focus on structuring classes for all age groups on a variety of topics. The ideal candidate will be in or have been in a teaching position, preferably in secondary or post secondary education and demonstrate an affinity for directing the development of curriculums to entice participation and stimulate discussion in an open forum setting.
OASIS offeres a fully featured and functional software education system online for ongoing support programs, bulletins, materials, and even grading. Being able to work within these tools would be an excellent asset, so being versed in internet applications and basic productivity software like Word and Outlook are helpful.
